How can the cultural heritage sector truly benefit from the affordances of immersive technologies? In immersive environments, we are no longer constrained by the physical limitations of exhibition rooms that determine what can be shown and what remains in the archive. We can forgo the rules of gravity or measures that regulate what can and cannot be touched. In this sense, XR presents an exciting opportunity to go beyond the current “virtual museum” or digital twin formats to rethink curatorial practices and the way that audiences can engage with heritage collections. This workshop invites participants to think about new approaches for creating immersive experiences in the cultural heritage sector which utilise more diverse technological possibilities and overcome existing adoption barriers. During the hands-on session, participants will explore and design alternative immersive storytelling formats.
The workshop will be conducted in English. Participation is free, but registration is mandatory as spaces are limited.
